Jim Davidson

Jim Davidson is a southern New England-based guitarist & teacher. Highlight performances include Boston GuitarFest, the Boston Classical Guitar Society, Tuesday Night New Music in Jordan Hall, the Rhode Island Guitar Guild, the University of Rhode Island Guitar Festival, the Brockton Symphony Orchestra, and numerous solo & chamber recitals throughout New England.
Passionate about new music, he has performed the world premieres of a number of new works by contemporary composers. Notably, Jim performed in the premiere of Grammy-nominated composer Robert Beaser’s Chaconne at the New England Conservatory in 2018 with the composer conducting.
An avid cosmopolitan, Jim has explored most genres featuring the guitar, ranging from classical to bluegrass to gypsy jazz to heavy metal. In 2021, he contributed slide and steel guitar to the URI Sessions project featuring luminary players such as Derek Gripper, the Great Necks Guitar Trio, mandolinist Yaki Reuven, the Maharajah Flamenco Trio, and others.
Additionally, Jim is a founding board member of the Rhode Island Guitar Guild, a newly minted organization aiming to expand and support the guitar community in Rhode Island. Former teachers include Jérôme Mouffe, Eliot Fisk, Berit Strong, and Don Lappin. He has performed in masterclasses for Jorge Caballero, Grisha Goryachev, Denis Azabagic, and others. Jim holds an MMus cum laude from the New England Conservatory and a BA in Music from Bridgewater State University.
Jim serves on the faculty of Bridgewater State University and Stonehill College.
