Bokyung Byun, Classical Guitar

Praised by Classical Guitar Magazine as “confident and quite extraordinary.” Korean guitarist, Bokyung Byun enjoys a rising reputation as one of the most sought-after guitarists of her generation. She is the first female winner of the prestigious JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition. Ms. Falletta herself described Bokyung’s performance as “stunning, showcasing her gorgeous tone, immaculate technique, and sophisticated musicianship …” She has excelled on the competitive circuit, winning first-prize finishes in numerous international guitar festivals and in 2016, was named the recipient of the International Artist Fellowship awarded to outstanding artists by the University of Southern California.
Born in Seoul, Korea, Ms. Byun began playing guitar at the age of six and took the stage for her first solo recital at the age of eleven. Ms. Byun moved to New York City when she was 16 where she entered The Juilliard School. She holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of Southern California.
