The Bester Duo brings the intimate sound of flute and nylon-string guitar to audiences across greater Boston. Since forming in 2019, they have built a distinctive program that pairs 20th-century repertoire with original compositions.
Amanda Bester is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, adjudicator, and performer whose career has spanned over two decades in the classroom and on stage. She directed high school choral ensembles and award-winning a cappella programs in Chelmsford and Marblehead, MA, and is an experienced musical theater director and pit orchestra musician for scholastic and community productions throughout northeastern Massachusetts. A passionate educator and community builder, she has served on the boards of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association, the Contemporary A Cappella Society, and the NE Voices festival. She holds degrees in music education from the University of Massachusetts and Gordon College.
Michael Bester is an acoustic and electric guitarist, bassist, arranger, producer, and composer. He is versed in numerous styles, equally at home in classical, jazz, rock, and pop. In addition to session work, he regularly performs with Rock Voices. He has also played in the Bester Papineau guitar duo, as well as with pit orchestras for theatrical productions. He is a long-standing board member of the Boston Classical Guitar Society. He holds a degree in Studio Music and Jazz guitar performance from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music.
