SUMMARY:2026 BCGS Spring Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our BCGS 2026 one-day festival and evening concert on May 2\, 2026. \nFor our headline concert we are featuring the super virtuosic and dynamic duo from Europe – Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić. For over thirty years these great artists have been honing their combined musical talents into a perfectly synchronized duo performance of exquisite beauty and charm – a must see. \nThe theme for our day festival activities will be – The Musician as an Athlete. \nJust as an athlete trains mind and body to perform at their highest level\, so does a musician. Athletes and musicians both train deliberately through exercises\, repetition\, and precisely coordinated movements\, all in preparation for the performance. Just as with athletics\, playing guitar involves the whole body and mind\, and all three morning workshops are designed to take care of you as a musician/athlete. \nBeginning with an Alexander Technique workshop\, you will learn to recognize and change your tension patterns\, leading to improved coordination and greater freedom of motion. Next\, a guitar technique workshop will take a holistic approach in guiding you to turn technical considerations into musical goals. It will cover movement\, body mapping\, musical expression\, and more. The morning session concludes with a sports psychology workshop that explores the similarities between sports and musical performance. Through group activities you will learn strategies for overcoming performance anxiety and getting in the right mindset to perform. \nThe workshops will cover the following topics: \n\nPosture\nBalance\nSupport\nReducing tension\nFreedom of movement\nCoordination\nBody mapping\nPerformance anxiety\nResilience\n\nThe afternoon will feature a master class with the dynamic and versatile Chris Ladd\, brought back by popular demand. In addition\, the festival includes an open mic concert\, free breakfast and lunch\, and plenty of time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. We truly hope you can join us for what will be a hugely enjoyable and inspiring day. \nIf you already have tickets to the Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić concert\, you can purchase a festival-only pass here. \n\nFestival Schedule\n9:00 am\nFestival Welcome & Breakfast\nScones\, granola\, yogurt\, coffee\, water\, juice \n\n9:30 am\nPlaying with Ease: An Introduction to the Alexander Technique for Guitarists\nInstructor: Fanny Lora \nThis one-hour interactive workshop introduces classical guitarists to the core principles of the Alexander Technique (AT) and their direct application to playing the guitar. Through guided activities\, observation\, and simple movement explorations\, participants will learn how to reduce unnecessary tension\, improve coordination\, and enhance freedom of movement while sitting and playing. The session balances hands-on work with the guitar and off-instrument activities that foster awareness\, ease\, and group engagement\, making the principles immediately relevant and practical for musicians at all levels. \n\n10:30 am\nTechnique as Teamwork\nInstructor: Fred Springer \nThis workshop will explore the utilization of technical principles towards musical ends. Taking a holistic approach to technique\, participants will learn how to coordinate various technical elements to work together to accomplish musical goals. Incorporating movement\, body mapping\, playing techniques\, and musical expression\, we will experience how technical teamwork makes the dream work. \n\n11:30 am\nPerforming with Confidence: Mental Skills for the Stage\nInstructor: Olivia Papakyrikos \nEven the most successful musicians get nervous. The difference? They’ve learned how to use their mind as a tool\, instead of letting it run the show. Showing up calm and composed when performing isn’t luck — it’s a skill. In this workshop\, you’ll learn practical strategies to manage nerves and build confidence under pressure. You’ll walk away with tools you can use to feel grounded\, focused and ready to perform\, no matter the moment. \n\n12:30 pm\nLunch\nProvided by Surya Indian Caterers  \n\n1:30 pm\nMaster Class with Chris Ladd \nFour 30 minute master class spots are available for $75 each. \n\n4:00 pm\nOpen Mic Concert \nFestival participants are invited to perform up to 10 minutes of music for the Open Mic Concert. Sign up in advance by emailing Catherine O’Kelly at catherine.okelly@bostonguitar.org. Space is limited to 80 minutes of music total\, so sign up soon to reserve your spot! \n\n5:45 pm\nBreak for dinner (on your own) \n\n7:30 pm\nAniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić in Concert \nTo close out the festival\, as well as this year’s Artist Series\, we welcome Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić to the BCGS stage!\nYour ticket to the concert is included in your Festival pass. \n\n\n\n\n\nCan I get tickets for just the festival? Just the Concert? Or Both?\nDepending on what you’d like to participate in (or already have tickets for)\, here are all of our different ticket options for the events on May 2: \n\nFestival-only pass WITHOUT the concert ticket.\nFestival pass WITH the concert ticket.\nJUST the Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić concert ticket.

SUMMARY:Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić
DESCRIPTION:Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić\, both acclaimed classical guitarists\, have been collaborating as a duo since the early 1990s. Together\, they are sometimes know as From A & Z. \nWhen two of the most decorated titans of the classical guitar join forces in the 90s\, the result was nothing short of a historical musical event. Aniello Desiderio and Zoran Dukić represent the pinnacle of contemporary guitar performance\, blending Neapolitan fire with Slavic precision to create a duo partnership defined by “spectacular virtuosity” and “profound maturity.”\nCombined\, their trophy cabinets hold the world’s most prestigious honors\, including double victories at the “Andrés Segovia” competitions and the “Guerrero” International Competition in Madrid. Their collaboration brings together two distinct yet complementary musical philosophies\, creating a concert experience that has left audiences on their feet from the very first note. \nThe Artists\nAniello Desiderio\nHailed since childhood as “il Fenomeno” and the “Orpheus of the guitar\,” Desiderio is a Neapolitan virtuoso who graduated with honors from the Conservatory of Music in Alessandria. A regular soloist at most prestigious venues and featured at Carnegie Hall and the Berlin Philharmonie\, he has been a preferred collaborator for legends such as Lorin Maazel and John McLaughlin. His playing is characterized by a “genius” level of expression that earned him the “Artist in Residence Award” from German Radio DLF. \nZoran Dukić\nRegarded as one of the most distinguished classical guitarists of our time\, Dukić is a master of stylistic versatility. From his “tour de force” competition years to his deep dedication to the works of J.S. Bach or Piazzolla\, his performances are noted for their unique clarity in interpretation and “powerful inspiration.” Notably\, he was the first non-Spaniard to be awarded the special prize for the best interpretation of Spanish music in Madrid\, a testament to his “astounding mastery” of the instrument’s core repertoire and any style in general. \nCritical Acclaim\nThe international press has been unanimous in its praise for these two masters: \nAlways the master of his instrument\, Dukić demonstrated spectacular virtuosity over and over again together with a great maturity and powerful inspiration. \n— Il Gazzettino\, Italy \nA guitarist of the century… il Fenomeno. \n— Music Critics on Desiderio \nA thrilling concert… the audience was on its feet already after the first piece… a phenomenal evening. \n— Gevelsberger Zeitung\, Germany \nGlobal Presence and Pedagogy\nBoth artists maintain a rigorous global touring schedule\, appearing as soloists with the world’s leading orchestras\, including the Virtuosi di Moscow\, RSO Berliner\, Vancouver Symphony\, Oregon\, and Grant Park Festival Orchestra\, to name a few recent engagements. \nBeyond the stage\, they are two of the most sought-after educators in the world. Desiderio serves as a professor at the University of Music in Avellino and is invited for regular masterclasses at the Koblenz Festival\, Mozarteum in Salzburg and many other universities and conservatories throughout Europe\, while Dukić is often invited to similar biggest festivals and continues to inspire the next generation through his extensive premiering of contemporary works by composers such as Takemitsu\, Henze\, and Gubaidulina. \nTogether\, Desiderio and Dukić offer a program that spans the history of the guitar—from the Baroque precision of Bach to the rhythmic intensity of South American Tangos—delivered with a level of technical authority that only two “masters of the century” can provide.
