SUMMARY:Catherine O’Kelly
DESCRIPTION:Classical guitarist Catherine O’Kelly is an active performer throughout New England\, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician. She performs regularly as part of the concert series for The Shirley Meeting House in Shirley\, MA.  In June 2020 she founded and directed the Online Guitar Festival\, providing performance opportunities\, master classes\, composition classes\, and songwriting classes to guitarists of all ages and levels.  \nCatherine earned her Master’s degree in guitar performance from The Hartt School in CT where she studied with Richard Provost; and a BA in music and philosophy from Vassar College. She is currently finishing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in classical guitar performance at The Hartt School in West Hartford\, CT\, where she studies with Christopher Ladd.  She has performed in master classes for Jason Vieaux\, Odair Assad\, Sergio Assad\, Andrew York\, Vladimir Gorbach\, Antigoni Goni\, Oscar Ghiglia\, Eliot Fisk\, and Jorge Caballero. \nIn addition to her performing and academic studies\, Catherine teaches at The Rivers School Conservatory in Weston\, MA; Dana Hall School in Wellesley\, MA; Powers Music School in Belmont\, MA; and at The Community School of the Arts in Storrs\, CT\,  and is currently a board member of the Boston Classical Guitar Society.

SUMMARY:Jérôme Mouffe
DESCRIPTION:A virtuoso guitarist from Belgium\, Jérôme has dazzled international audiences with his passionate and spontaneous playing. Jérôme has toured throughout the United States and Western Europe as a soloist and chamber musician. \nRecent performances include recitals for the Omni Concert Series in San Francisco\, the New York Classical Guitar Society Second Sunday Series\, the Guitar Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania\, the MIT Little Kresge auditorium\, and the International Brussels Guitar Festival\, among others. In November 2009\, Jerome was invited to perform at the Agustin Barrios Mangore Festival in Brussels\, where he shared the stage with his mentor\, Eliot Fisk. In March 2011\, he performed Rodrigo’s celebrated Concierto de Aranjuez with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Sonora conducted by Hector Reyes\, in Mexico. Jerome has released his debut CD—Capriccio— on the VGo Recordings label in 2009. \nIn May 2012\, Jerome graduated with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the New England Conservatory of Boston. His doctoral dissertation analyzes how collaboration between composer and soloist achieved an optimization of the guitar’s capabilities in Robert Beaser’s Guitar Concerto (2009). SUMMARY:Beijing Guitar Duo
DESCRIPTION:Praised by the distinguished Classical Guitar Magazine as “having the star potential to serve as inspiration for new generations of guitarists to come\,” Beijing Guitar Duo made their New York debut in Carnegie Hall in 2010 and launched their international concert career.\nGuitarists Meng Su and Yameng Wang\, as Beijing Guitar Duo have performed around the world in halls such as the Concertgebouw\, Palau de Musica\, Tchaikovsky Hall and the National Theatre in Beijing. The duo regularly collaborates with orchestras\, in ensemble with flutist Marina Piccinini\, guitarists Grigoryan Brothers\, and with legendary guitarist Manuel Barrueco touring in Europe\, Australia\, Asia and the U.S. \nThe Beijing Guitar Duo’s performances and recordings have impressed the public with “an ability and artistry that exceeds their years.” Their debut CD Maracaípe\, received a Latin-GRAMMY nomination for the titled piece\, which was dedicated to them by renowned guitarist/composer Sergio Assad. Their second CD\, Bach to Tan Dun\, has been widely noted for the world premiere recording of Tan Dun’s Eight Memories in Watercolor\, specially arranged for the duo by Manuel Barrueco. A recording in trio\, China West\, with Maestro Barrueco was released in May 2014. \nMeng Su and Yameng Wang were born in the coastal city of Qingdao\, China. They came to the partnership with exceptional credentials\, including a string of competition awards. Ms. Su’s honors include victories at the Vienna Youth Guitar Competition and the Christopher Parkening Guitarist Competition\, while Ms. Wang was the youngest guitarist to win the Tokyo International Guitar Competition at the age of 12\, and was invited by Radio France to perform at the prestigious Paris International Guitar Art Week at age 14. Both young artists had given solo recitals in China and abroad\, and had made recordings before they formed the duo. \nIn addition to concertizing\, the duo shares a love for teaching which brings them to major conservatories worldwide for master classes and to judge competitions. The duo served as Artists-in-Residence from 2011-2015 for San Francisco Performances which brought them to the Bay Area two weeks a year for community outreach\, performances\, and masterclasses in public schools as well as clinics at San Francisco Conservatory.

Reservations recommended but not required; seating is on a first-come\, first-serve basis. \nMake your free reservation \n\nAugustine Foundation Concert \nBokyung Byun enjoys a reputation as one of the most sought-after guitarists of her generation. She holds the distinction of being the first female winner of the prestigious JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition\, where Falletta herself described Bokyung’s performance as “stunning\, showcasing her gorgeous tone\, immaculate technique\, and sophisticated musicianship.” \nShe was the 2021 grand prize winner at the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition and the Montreal International Classical Guitar Competition.  Bo is the recipient of the 2023 Avery Fisher Career Grant \nBorn in Seoul\, Korea\, Bo began playing guitar at the age of six. At eleven\, she took the stage for her first solo recital\, leading to an early start in her teen years performing numerous concert tours around Korea. By her teen years she had gained national attention for first-prize finishes in three renowned Korean competitions.  She soon moved to New York City where she entered The Juilliard School at the age of sixteen. She holds Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from The Juilliard School and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California. Teachers and mentors include Scott Tennant\, William Kanengiser\, and Sharon Isbin. \nIn 2020\, Bokyung co-founded Guitarlab which provides an innovative online learning platform offering cutting-edge classes designed for young professionals around the world.  She is currently on the guitar faculty of University of North Texas.

While Thatcher is best known for his compositions for solo guitar\, he also loves to compose for different instruments and ensembles\, and he has completed several commissions for soloists and ensembles alike. \nAs a performer\, Thatcher Harrison chooses to perform unconventional and daring programs\, oftentimes consisting primarily of his own compositions. Fresh off his concert at the 2021 Boston Guitarfest\, Thatcher’s upcoming concert season will see him expand into the international scene\, as he will perform concerts for the Pleven Guitar Festival in Bulgaria\, the Twents Gitaarfestival in the Netherlands\, and the Domaine Forget International Music Festival in Canada. In years past\, Thatcher has performed at such notable concert halls as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall\, Jordan Hall\, Symphony Hall\, the Baryshnikov Arts Center\, and RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. He made his professional debut in 1985 on the Disney Channel’s  “Coming On!\,” a show that visited college campuses all across America to show off exceptionally talented students. He plays with his brother Jose Ramos and the Val Ramos Flamenco Ensemble. SUMMARY:Lovro Peretić
DESCRIPTION:Lovro Peretić is an internationally recognized\, award-winning classical guitarist from Zagreb\, Croatia. He started studying guitar at a young age with Xhevdet Sahatxhija\, and later studied with Judicaël Perroy at the Haute Ecole de Musique Genève in Switzerland. Today he is regarded as one of the leading guitarists of the younger generation\, regularly giving concerts and winning numerous awards at some of the most prestigious classical music competitions. \nLovro has won over 30 prizes in international competitions\, including first place at the 2022 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition\, the 2020 Eurostrings Guitar Competition\, and the Changsha International Guitar Competition in China. As part of his first prize award at the GFA competition\, Lovro recorded his debut album for the Naxos Laureate Series\, which was released in 2023. \nLovro has given concerts throughout Europe as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He regularly performs in various chamber ensembles\, most notably his guitar trio Evocación\, which recently released their first album\, also named Evocación.  He has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras\, including the Symphony Orchestra of Croatian radio television and the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra\, and has performed and given master classes in many of the world’s most prestigious guitar festivals and concert series\, including the Paris International Guitar Festival and the London International Guitar Festival.

DESCRIPTION:Céili Connors is a Boston based performer\, teacher\, and artistic administrator who is actively performing both as a soloist and chamber musician. She has established a growing studio in Massachusetts\, and Rhode Island\, as well as holding faculty positions at the New England Conservatory of Music and the Community College of Rhode island. \nCeili received her Masters degree in classical guitar performance at the New England Conservatory of music in Boston under the instruction of Eliot Fisk. She completed her under graduate studies at the University of Rhode Island with a Bachelor of Music in classical guitar performance. She also spent some time studying and living in Granada\, Spain\, where she attended the University of Granada\, and studied flamenco and Spanish guitar. DESCRIPTION:Augustine Foundation Concert \n“Precision\, musical intelligence and passion” are words that have been used to described guitarist Colin Davin.  He has been hailed as “the real thing;  a player with a virtuoso’s technique\, a deeply expressive musicianship\, and a probing imagination” (American Record Guide). \nFor the past seven years Colin has served on the conservatory faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music as Co-Head of the Guitar Department alongside Jason Vieaux. He holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School\, where he studied with Sharon Isbin; a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern California with William Kanengiser (of the LA Guitar Quartet)\,  and underwent preparatory studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music with Jason Vieaux.  He has recently joined the faculty of Shenandoah Conservatory in Winchester\, Virginia\, as Director of Guitar Studio and Associate Professor of Guitar. \nColin performs regularly as a soloist and as a guest artist with orchestras around the world.  He collaborates with  GRAMMY Award winning soprano Estele Gomez and Dallas Symphony Orchestra principal harpist Emily Levin.  He is recently back from performing in Australia and in October will play the guitar part in Mahler’s 7th Symphony with the Cleveland Orchestra in Cleveland\, Vienna\, and Israel.

DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome the incomparable David Russell back to the BCGS stage to round out our 2022–23 Artist Series. \nGRAMMY award winner for his CD AIRE LATINO in the category of best instrumental soloist in classical music. \nHonorary Doctorate in Music by the University of Arizona in Tucson in 2014. \nInducted into the Hall of Fame of the Guitar Foundation of America in 2018. \nClassical guitarist David Russell is world renowned for his superb musicianship and inspired artistry\, having earned the highest praise from audiences and critics alike. In recognition of his great talent and his international career\, he was named a Fellow of The Royal Academy of Music in London in 1997. \nIn May 2003 he was bestowed the great honor of being made “adopted son” of Es Migjorn\, the town in Minorca where he grew up. Later the town named a street after him\, “Avinguda David Russell”. \nIn November 2003 he was given the Medal of Honor of the Conservatory of the Balearics. \nAfter winning the grammy award\, the town of Nigrán in Spain where he resides\, gave him the silver medal of the town in an emotional ceremony. \nDuring his studies at the Royal Academy\, David Russell won twice the Julian Bream Guitar Prize. Later he won numerous international competitions\, including the Andrés Segovia Competition \, the José Ramírez Competition and Spain’s prestigious Francisco Tárrega Competition . \nDavid Russell spends his time touring the world\, appearing regularly at prestigious halls in main cities\, such as New York\, London\, Tokyo\, Los Angeles\, Madrid\, Toronto or Rome. Concert-goers everywhere are in awe of his musical genius and inspired by his captivating stage presence. His love of his craft resonates through his flawless and seemingly effortless performance. The attention to detail and provocative lyrical phrasing suggest an innate understanding of what each individual composer was working to achieve\, bringing to each piece a sense of adventure. \nIn May 2005 he received a homage from the music conservatory of Vigo\, culminating with the opening of the new Auditorium\, to which they gave the name “Auditorio David Russell”. \nIn 2009 David was named honorary member of “Amigos de la Guitarra”\, the oldest guitar society in Spain. \nA prolific recording artists\, his collection includes seventeen CDs with Telarc International. \nThe New York Times wrote about his performance: “… Mr. Russell made his mastery evident without ever deviating from an approach that places musical values above mere display. It was apparent to the audience throughout the recital that Mr. Russell possesses a talent of extraordinary dimension”. \nUpon hearing play in London\, Andrés Segovia wrote: “My congratulations on your musicality and guitaristic technique”.

SUMMARY:Back Bay Guitar Trio
DESCRIPTION:Back Bay Guitar Trio formed in 2002 and has performed at Dartmouth College\, Longy School of Music\, Berklee College of Music\, St. Anselm College\, University of New Hampshire\, The House of Blues and at the world renowned Boston Hatch Shell. The BBGT have also been featured artists in concert series for the Boston Classical Guitar Society\, the New York City Classical Guitar Society\, and opened up for guitarist Al Dimeola at the Lebanon (NH) Opera House. The Back Bay Guitar Trio toured Germany in the summer of 2009 and appeared as featured artists at the Hildener Meisterkurs in Hilden and a concert sponsored by the U.S. Consulate at the Nebbiensches Gartenhaus in Frankfurt. \nAbout the Members\nJohn Mason grew up in Westwood Mass and currently resides in Northampton Mass. He studied at Middlebury College\, graduating in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in music. He furthered his music education at the Berklee College of Music the following year. In 2002\, he won the Guitarmageddon National Championship at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. He is currently on faculty at Westfield State College\, Holyoke Community College and the Northfield Mount Hermon School. In addition to being in the Back Bay Guitar Trio\, John performs with the improv group Solo Mission with drummer Gary Rzab. \nDavid Newsam currently works as an assistant professor in the guitar department at Berklee where he has taught since 1989. He is also employed as a senior lecturer in music at Dartmouth College in Hanover\, NH where he teaches guitar and jazz improvisation. David created the jazz guitar program at the University of New Hampshire where he teaches\, directs the UNH Jazz Guitar Ensemble and coaches jazz ensembles. He is a former faculty member of the National Guitar Summer Workshop. David performs solo and group engagements throughout New England.\n \nJason Ennis is an exciting voice in the world of jazz guitar. His unique sound\, deep groove and sensitive feel\, along with a diverse background in jazz\, blues\, Brazilian music and classical music have made him highly in demand as a soloist\, sideman\, bandleader and musical director. A graduate of Middlebury College (BA in music)\, Jason attended Berklee College of Music (Boston) and The San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

DESCRIPTION:Xuefei Yang is acclaimed as one of the world’s finest classical guitarists. Hailed as a musical pioneer – her fascinating journey began after the Cultural Revolution\, a period where Western musical instruments and music were banned. Fei was the first-ever guitarist in China to enter a music school\, and became the first internationally recognised Chinese guitarist on the world stage. \nHer first public appearance was at the age of ten and received such acclaim that the Spanish Ambassador in China presented her with a concert guitar. Her debut in Madrid at the age of 14 was attended by the composer Joaquín Rodrigo and\, when John Williams heard her play\, he gave two of his own instruments to Beijing’s Central Conservatoire especially for her and other advanced students. \nFei is one of the few guitarists whose artistry connects with audiences far beyond the guitar fraternity. Her international success has led her to be invited to play in more than 50 countries at numerous prestigious venues\, and is frequently invited to play with the world’s leading orchestras\, and collaborate with artists such as Ian Bostridge\, Roberto Alagna and Sir James Galway. \nGramophone magazine praised her as one of the leading innovators of her generation for continuing to build the guitar repertoire. \nFei has made many acclaimed recordings for major labels. Her first received a gold disc and her second was selected as ‘Editor’s Choice’ in Gramophone magazine. DESCRIPTION:As guitar soloist and composer\, Dr. José Manuel Lezcano has captivated audiences on four continents. In programs of standard repertoire\, Hispano-American composers\, and original works\, he has appeared in major venues and festivals\, including Carnegie Recital Hall\, the NYC North-South Consonance Series\, Cuba\, Trinidad & Tobago\, Spain\, Ecuador\, Colombia\, Peru\, Brazil\, China\, Germany\, and the Czech Republic as recitalist and concerto soloist.   Dr. Lezcano is thrilled to recently join the School of Music at the University of Southern Maine (Gorham) as the new Artist Lecturer in Guitar.  He continues to serve as Professor Emeritus at Keene State College\, directing & coordinating the nationally acclaimed and NASM accredited guitar program there.  Described  by Fanfare Magazine as “an excellent guitarist as well as an imaginative composer\,” Jose has earned numerous professional recognitions\, including first prize in the MTNA National Guitar Competition\, the NHSCA Individual Artist Fellowship\, NHMTA Composer of the Year(twice)\, KSC Distinguished Research Award\, and a Fulbright Award to Ecuador\, where he pursued research on the guitar as ritual instrument in indigenous / mestizo summer solstice festivals\, and taught courses at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador.

SUMMARY:Back Bay Guitar Trio
DESCRIPTION:Back Bay Guitar Trio formed in 2002 and has performed at Dartmouth College\, Longy School of Music\, Berklee College of Music\, St. Anselm College\, University of New Hampshire\, The House of Blues and at the world renowned Boston Hatch Shell. The BBGT have also been featured artists in concert series for the Boston Classical Guitar Society\, the New York City Classical Guitar Society\, and opened up for guitarist Al Dimeola at the Lebanon (NH) Opera House. The Back Bay Guitar Trio toured Germany in the summer of 2009 and appeared as featured artists at the Hildener Meisterkurs in Hilden and a concert sponsored by the U.S. Consulate at the Nebbiensches Gartenhaus in Frankfurt. \nAbout the Members\nJohn Mason grew up in Westwood Mass and currently resides in Northampton Mass. He studied at Middlebury College\, graduating in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in music. He furthered his music education at the Berklee College of Music the following year. In 2002\, he won the Guitarmageddon National Championship at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. He is currently on faculty at Westfield State College\, Holyoke Community College and the Northfield Mount Hermon School. In addition to being in the Back Bay Guitar Trio\, John performs with the improv group Solo Mission with drummer Gary Rzab. \nDavid Newsam currently works as an assistant professor in the guitar department at Berklee where he has taught since 1989. He is also employed as a senior lecturer in music at Dartmouth College in Hanover\, NH where he teaches guitar and jazz improvisation. David created the jazz guitar program at the University of New Hampshire where he teaches\, directs the UNH Jazz Guitar Ensemble and coaches jazz ensembles. He is a former faculty member of the National Guitar Summer Workshop. David performs solo and group engagements throughout New England.\n \nJason Ennis is an exciting voice in the world of jazz guitar. His unique sound\, deep groove and sensitive feel\, along with a diverse background in jazz\, blues\, Brazilian music and classical music have made him highly in demand as a soloist\, sideman\, bandleader and musical director. A graduate of Middlebury College (BA in music)\, Jason attended Berklee College of Music (Boston) and The San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Boston Classical Guitar Society for a special performance at the Hingham Public Library by guitar and flute duo\, Michael Bester and Amanda Roeder. \nAmanda Roeder is a multi instrumentalist and music educator\, adjudicator\, and performer. Since 2014 she has directed the choral ensembles and an award winning a cappella program at Chelmsford High School in Chelmsford\, MA. She is an experienced musical theater director and pit orchestra musician for scholastic and community productions throughout northeastern Massachusetts. A passionate educator and community builder\, she has served on the boards of numerous organizations that promote quality music education\, including the Massachusetts Music Educators Association\, the Contemporary A Cappella Society\, and the NE Voices festival. She holds degrees in music education from the University of Massachusetts and Gordon College. \nMichael Bester is an acoustic and electric guitarist\, bassist\, arranger\, producer\, and composer. He is versed in numerous styles\, from classical and jazz to rock and pop and beyond. In recent years\, he has performed in the Bester Papineau guitar duo\, as well as in pit orchestras for theatrical productions in the greater Boston area. He holds a degree in music performance from the University of Miami.

SUMMARY:Thatcher Harrison
DESCRIPTION:Thatcher Harrison is a guitarist and a composer. As a guitarist\, he plays everything from classical guitar to jazz guitar\, to fingerstyle guitar\, to popular/rock guitar. As a composer\, he deftly combines influences from many genres of music to create pieces that satisfy both the heart and the mind. \nAs a competitor\, Thatcher Harrison has won 20 prizes in regional\, national\, and international competitions\, most notably 1st Prize at the 2021 Twents Gitaarfestival International Fingerstyle Guitar Competition\, 1st Prize at the 2021 Pleven Guitar Festival Fingerstyle Guitar Competition\, 1st Prize at the 2020 Boston Guitarfest Competition\, 1st Prize at the 2020 Atlanta Festival Guitar Competition\, and a winner of the 2019 National YoungArts Foundation Competition. \nAs a composer\, Thatcher Harrison specializes in what he calls “classical fusion” composition: pieces based in classical composition and performance techniques\, but with influences from jazz music\, rock music\, fingerstyle guitar music\, film score music\, and world music. While Thatcher is best known for his compositions for solo guitar\, he also loves to compose for different instruments and ensembles\, and he has completed several commissions for soloists and ensembles alike. \nAs a performer\, Thatcher Harrison chooses to perform unconventional and daring programs\, oftentimes consisting primarily of his own compositions. Fresh off his concert at the 2021 Boston Guitarfest\, Thatcher’s upcoming concert season will see him expand into the international scene\, as he will perform concerts for the Pleven Guitar Festival in Bulgaria\, the Twents Gitaarfestival in the Netherlands\, and the Domaine Forget International Music Festival in Canada. In years past\, Thatcher has performed at such notable concert halls as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall\, Jordan Hall\, Symphony Hall\, the Baryshnikov Arts Center\, and RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Thatcher also performed on Episode #376 of NPR’s From The Top in 2019. \nThatcher is currently studying for his Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Guitar Performance at New England Conservatory with Eliot Fisk and Jérôme Mouffe\, and he also studies privately with flamenco virtuoso Grisha Goryachev and classical guitar virtuoso Scott Borg. Prior to attending NEC\, Thatcher studied with William Riley.

SUMMARY:Adam Del Monte
DESCRIPTION:We are proud to welcome Adam Del Monte to the BCGS stage to kick off the 2022–23 Artist Series. \nOne of the leading flamenco and classical guitarist/composers of his generation\, Adam del Monte has made it his life mission to fully express himself in these two genres\, transcending labeling and convention. Always having incorporated a wide array of musical styles in his compositions\, Del Monte and has embarked on a journey creating a unique sound and language of flamenco that is both steeped in tradition and progressive in its openness to musical flavors from around the world. \nDel Monte has recorded for Deutsche Gramophone – the featured flamenco guitar part in the double Grammy award winning opera Ainadamar by Osvaldo Golijov (2006)\, with soprano Dawn Upshaw and the Atlanta Symphony\, conducted by Robert Spano.  Since then\, he has toured this opera in\, Carnegie Hall\, NY\, Lincoln Center\, NY\, Barbican Center\, London\, Colorado Music Festival in Boulder\, Chicago Symphony and many more.  \nDel Monte was both influenced by and inspired the younger generation of flamenco performers who were beginning to depart from the previous virtual space of Spanish flamenco. Del Monte\, too\, set out in new directions\, integrating years of traditional and leading–edge flamenco training as well as expanding his musicianship on the classical guitar. An eclectic awareness of jazz\, world music and other contemporary forms led to new\, creative renditions of flamenco repertoire.   \nFirst Prize Winner at the 1997 Stotsenberg International Classical Guitar Competition\, Del Monte is one of the new generation’s dynamic forces in both flamenco and classical guitar. He studied flamenco and classical guitar in Spain\, Israel & England. Beginning with his father\, he continued his training with such famed Gypsy performers as Pepe Habichuel”\, Paco Cortez\, Nino Miguel &Gerardo Nunez. His classical guitar teachers were Menashe Baquiche\, Israel and Gordon Crosskey at Chethams School of Music and at the Royal Northern College of Music\, Manchester\, England. He has also appeared as both a solo artist and group performer in major venues such as LA’s Mark Taper Forum and the Wilshire Theater; the Teatro Real and the Conde Duque in Madrid; Manuel de Falla Auditorium in Granada; New Mexico St Francis Auditorium in Santa Fe; the International Guitar Festival in Israel\, GFA in St Louis\,’96\, La Jolla\,’97 and Charleston\, 99 GFA\, Guitar Festival\, the 500th anniversary of Columbus celebrations in Paris and Madrid. \nAdam has been on the studio guitar department faculty at USC since 2000\, where he teaches flamenco and classical guitar.  \nDel Monte plays classical and flamenco guitars by Erez Perelman from Israel and Altamira Guitars. \nwww.adamdelmonte.com \nFeaturing Ria Modak\nThe BCGS is also happy to welcome Ria Modak to the Artist Series stage this evening to open Adam Del Monte’s performance. \n \nRia Modak is a guitarist and composer from New York. She is pursuing a master’s degree in guitar performance at the New England Conservatory of Music\, where she studies with Eliot Fisk\, Jérôme Mouffe\, and Grisha Goryachev\, and recently graduated from Harvard College\, where she studied with Vijay Iyer and Esperanza Spalding. Her playing has been recognized by the National YoungArts Foundation\, the Long Island Classical Guitar Society\, the New York Guitar Seminar\, and Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society\, and she appeared on NPR’s From The Top in 2018 and 2020. She has performed with Paquito D’Rivera\, Ali Sethi\, Claire Chase\, Isheeta Chakrvarty and other musicians both in the United States and India at venues ranging from Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall to the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai. As a composer\, she is inspired by her training in Hindustani music and flamenco\, and has been commissioned by the Harvard Office for the Arts\, the Harvard Composers’ Association\, the National Jazz Museum in Harlem\, and Winter JazzFest as part of Jen Shyu and Sara Serpa’s M3 Fellowship.

SUMMARY:Emma Moseley & Katie Graves
DESCRIPTION:Emma Moseley\n \nBorn in Baton Rouge\, Emma Dean quickly found herself growing up in small town\, Mississippi. It was here that she decided to pick up the guitar at the age of 6\, and has been willing her small hands to grow and reach ever since. Emma also found her voice at a young age\, singing and playing in a quaint\, wooden church that was filled with true southern tradition\, love\, and charm. Lucky for Emma\, there aren’t many distractions in small town\, MS to divert a kid’s attention from the music she sought. In fact\, MS was the perfect place to cultivate a serious guitarist and vocalist. Emma became inspired by the musical traditions of the delta (BB King\, Robert Johnson\, Sister Rosetta Tharpe\, Muddy Waters) and was fortunate to encounter one of southern Mississippi’s great blues players\, Jeromy Spiers\, who became Emma’s mentor and teacher throughout her young childhood. Spiers introduced Emma to the fingerstyle playing of the likes of Chet Atkins\, while at the same time Emma began to undertake classical guitar and voice study at age 9 with Hammond\, LA’s Patrick Kerber and Dr. David Bernard at SLU. Clearly\, Emma’s musical climate for guitar study was as rich as the southern soil she was rooted in- an ideal place for a music kid to grow and bloom. Emma has sought teachers of varied backgrounds and genres (John Konesky of Tenacious D fame\, fingerstyle genius Brooks Robertson\, John Knowles\, CGP\, Bobby Stanton\, and Guy Van Duser\, among others). The music of Tommy Emmanuel was a natural progression for Emma\, who has attended Emmanuel’s workshops and camps\, and considers performing with him an honor. Along the way\, Emma relocated to Austin\, TX\, in 2013\, where she met and has performed with the great Pete Huttlinger\, studied with Van Wilks\, and has been performing regularly in the rich Austin music scene. \nNow\, a junior at Berklee College of Music\, Emma won her full tuition scholarship as a finalist through Lee Ritenour’s Six String Theory competition.  She will graduate with a double major in Guitar Performance and Music Business Management.  In between her Boston studies\, Emma’s past few summers have been spent attending the Chet Atkins convention in Nashville with America’s greatest thumb pickers\, performing on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour with Eric Johnson\, touring across America with several bands\, recording several projects\, studying at the Rocky Mountain Guitar Camp (on scholarship from Gretsch) and continuing to grow and develop as a young woman in the music world. \nKatie Graves\n \nKatie Graves is a fingerstyle guitarist from Columbus\, Ohio. She currently studies guitar performance at Berklee College of Music. In Spring of 2022\, Katie was awarded the Guitar Department’s top Spring Award\, the Jimi Hendrix Scholarship. Katie is the lead student session player in the Guitar/Screen Scoring cross-course collaboration\, and\, as part of this\, gives seminars each semester to the Berklee Film Scoring Department on writing for the classical and electric guitar. Katie also works for the Berklee Vocal Department as an accompanist. Outside of Berklee\, Katie works as a studio musician\, pit guitarist\, transcriber and editor of solo guitar arrangements for publication\, and a concert performer. She teaches private lessons\, and specializes in finger-style guitar technique including injury rehabilitation\, arranging\, and reading/writing for the classical guitar.
